The Enneagram is … a tool for personal transformation and
… a map of the spiritual life
There are nine patterns we adopt in life, yet one dominates without our realizing it. When we find ourselves in a box (of perceptions and worldview) we need assistance. The enneagram can provide the key to get out of that box -- moving beyond our limited perceptions and worldview.
Learn to identify each type's motivation and worldview and why, when you encounter motivations or worldviews other than your own, you struggle to relate.
Our inner journey begins with AWARENESS of our habits, compulsions and reactions to life.
*What am I doing and why?
*How are my habits, compulsions and reactions interfering in relationships and my own happiness?
Once we're aware of our habits, compulsions and reactions, it is important to ACCEPT them as part of who we are. Most of what we as humans do is unconscious so we need to learn to be kind and accepting of ourselves and others.
The Enneagram provides a unique strategy for dealing with our reactions. It requires awareness, acceptance, and moving toward the intensity of our feelings. This inner work is difficult and not for the faint of heart. If we are faithful to our own journey, we can allow new patterns to emerge that provide choice and freedom.
The Enneagram is also a map of the spiritual life. Through the various spaces on the Enneagram, we encounter an invitation into the depths of our soul and the spaciousness of our spirit. The enneagram holds up a mirror so we can see our true "self" from different angles.
Become aware of your tendency to seek affirmation, security and control.
There are three centres that influence our self-awareness and spiritual growth: the heart (seeking affirmation), mind (seeking security) and body (seeking to control). We need all three centres to be operational to live balanced lives.
